Blog #3

In the poem Bless Their Hearts by Richard Newman, he talks about the expression "Bless their hearts" and how its used by many people before they talk some serious smack about someone. I have personally never used the expression and probably never will but people I'm around have so Ive found it to have a few different meanings. But in Newman's poem he literally comes out and says people use it to say mean things nicely exp. "My son, Bless his heart, is an idiot"(Line 4 of Bless their hearts by Richard Newman). Newman's  hidden meaning in the text I think is that he finds it rather annoying when people use the expression and that it just isn't right. He states this by using the expression over and over again in random circumstances exp. "I even blessed my ex-wife's heart"(Line 15 of Bless their hearts by Richard Newman).

I could apply this poem to my life in many ways. One being I have no social filter, so I'm always looking for a nicer way to say things before I randomly blurt them out. Another being Ive heard my name come up a few times after this expression was used. Being the poorly skilled eaves dropper that I am i didn't hear the whole conversation. So the expression has been used against me and I know how it feels.
